Ergonomics and noise on mobile workstations
A mobile IT cart is only as good as the posture it allows and the noise it makes. This guide goes through the details that decide both — and what to check when several people share one cart.
Continuous height adjustment for sitting and standing
Every lean column cart adjusts continuously rather than in fixed steps, so the worktop meets the person instead of the average. EasyCart uses a gas spring: release it, move the top to the height you want, let go. VexioCart and ProCart are continuously height-adjustable on a load-bearing column with a die-cast aluminium chassis underneath — ProCart is rated up to 80 kg. Cabinet carts work differently: BaseCart uses a spring-assisted lift arm and NovoCart a lift arm that also rotates and tilts, so the screen moves while the cabinet stays where it is. Where there is no floor space at all, the IT Lift wall system offers 300 mm of travel with matched gas springs that balance the monitor weight, so nothing has to be readjusted.
Monitor mounts: tilt, swivel and load limits
Load limits differ per model and are the first thing to check against the monitor you actually intend to use. EasyCart takes a VESA mount that tilts and swivels and carries up to 11 kg. VexioCart and ProCart use a spring-assisted VESA 75/100 mount with ±20° tilt and up to 14 kg. The lift arms on BaseCart and NovoCart are VESA 75/100 and rated up to 8 kg. The IT Lift wall system carries up to 18 kg, is available for two monitors and offers VESA 75/100 or 75/75 with a quick release. Monitors come in 24″, 27″ and 32″, and a True Flat screen with protective glass weighs more than a bare panel — so size the mount from the datasheet, not from the diagonal.
Keyboard trays and pull-out mouse pads
The keyboard tray decides where the wrists end up. EasyCart has a tray with a mouse pad that pulls out on either side, which matters as soon as left- and right-handed staff use the same cart; the XL version adds a wide comfort tray and a large HPL worktop. BaseCart can be specified with a wide keyboard tray, a worktop with a raised edge and an interior built to your requirements. Column carts carry a worktop with a compartment for a laptop or a fat or thin client, which keeps the surface clear. On the wall, the IT Lift uses a magnetic keyboard tray in 580 × 200 or 650 × 200 mm; with the tray folded up, the system sits only 110 mm from the wall.
Quiet operation: fanless technology and sandwich construction
Noise on a mobile workstation comes from three places: the computer, the cart body and the floor. Column carts are fanless, and so is the lean LFP power supply — a sealed, passively cooled housing with an integrated fanless fast charger, so nothing spins up while charging. The all-in-one panel PCs are fanless as well. For the body, SilentCart is built as a sandwich construction that is extremely quiet, and its drawers and doors close against circumferential rubber seals, which keeps them dust-tight and stops the rattling that loose drawers produce while rolling. Three sizes are available: 5060S, 7060S and 8060S. The coating is antimicrobial. NovoCart is likewise built for quiet running, with smooth surfaces that are easy to clean.
Castors, brakes and how the cart rolls
All carts run on twin-wheel castors with brakes. EasyCart comes with Ø 100 mm as standard and Ø 125 mm as an option; VexioCart XL, ProCart, AluCart, BaseCart and NovoCart use Ø 125 mm, and on ProCart and AluCart all four castors have brakes. The larger diameter is worth specifying wherever thresholds, cable ducts or lift gaps are in the way, because a bigger wheel climbs them with less push force. BaseCart adds an all-round bumper for corridors and door frames. One check from our retrofit practice is useful for any fleet you plan to keep: a cart needs at least two conductive castors before it makes sense to put IT on it.
When several people share one cart
Shared carts are the normal case in shift work, so test the adjustment rather than the spec sheet. Ask whether the height can be changed while holding a document, whether the mouse pad serves both hands, and whether the tilt range lets a tall and a short user see the same screen without glare. Keyboards and mice are available as disinfectable versions, which matters when many people touch them. With more than 1,000 configuration options the answers rarely come out of a catalogue: request a trial unit from our demo pool, run it on a real shift and compare two models side by side before you order. An optional 5-year warranty is available for the carts.
In short
- Continuous adjustment beats fixed steps — gas spring on EasyCart, spring-assisted columns on VexioCart and ProCart.
- Check the monitor weight against the mount: 8, 11, 14 or 18 kg depending on the model.
- Fanless clients and a sealed, passively cooled power supply keep the workstation quiet.
- Sandwich construction and rubber-sealed drawers make SilentCart the option where noise disturbs.
- Ø 125 mm castors cross thresholds with less push force than Ø 100 mm.
